BURN HOW GARDEN HOTEL

ABOUT US

The Burn How – meaning “the house on the hill by the stream” – was originally owned by the Short family who were famous for their 1937 Sunderland flying boat.

The current owner, Mr. Michael Robinson, has cared for and cultivated the mature gardens for over 30 years, encouraging the local wildlife that delights our guests with their antics, and creating an oasis of peace and tranquillity where you can Escape, Relax and Unwind.

The gardens were originally planned by Thomas Mawson, the celebrated early 20th century landscape designer. His trademark terraces and stonework allowed views to the surrounding fells and lakes.

Some of the Japanese Maples (Acer palmatum) in front of the restaurant have been around for over 50 years, and the rich and colourful gardens are also home to a wide variety of native plants and trees.

In an elevated position overlooking the garden is the Main House where you’ll find the reception area, lounge, bar and restaurant for breakfast.

And nestling among the trees you’ll find a diverse range of room types unlike any other hotel in the Lake District. From standard to deluxe and chalet-style to cottage rooms, there is something for everyone at The Burn How Garden Hotel.

From boat cruises to walking routes, to places to eat and shop there is so much to see and do on our doorstep. View some of our favourites here > EXPLORE THE LAKES
