The Tour of Britain is returning to Cumbria!

The tour of Britain is returning to Cumbria! Cyclists will be setting off from Carlisle castle today for stage 6 of the tour, which will see them travel down through the Lakes before heading east towards Gateshead.

From Carlisle, riders will head south via Dalston before entering the Lake District and going alongside Ullswater, England’s second largest lake. After passing through Pooley Bridge, riders will head over to Penrith, starting the eight kilometre climb of Hartside, before heading across through the Pennines and over to the Angel of the North in Gateshead.

This is the 10th time that Cumbria has hosted the Tour of Britain, with Cumbria City Council hoping to inspire people to take up cycling, promoting health benefits for young and old alike.

You can see the full route map, and maybe spot some of the competitors here.

Feeling inspired? Cumbria is a great place for cycling, with hundreds of trails across the Lakes. You can hire bikes up by Windemere railway station and follow some of their suggested routes by going into store or following the link here.
