Peter Rabbit is back in town

Peter Rabbit is coming back to town in Bowness this summer. Our brilliant local theatre, The Old Laundry, is a multi-purpose venue, sharing the space with one of the best loved attractions in the Lake District, The World of Beatrix Potter.

And it’s here that Peter Rabbit and his friends will be taking to the stage in a musical show that has been designed to appeal to all ages.

Holiday-makers are encouraged to book tickets for the show, Happy Birthday Peter Rabbit, while visiting the attraction (and we can confirm that it is a really delightful place to visit).

Featuring live actors and beautiful hand-crafted puppets, the characters include Peter Rabbit himself, Benjamin Bunny, Jemima Puddleduck and Mr McGregor.  The show runs from July 1 to September 3, and full details of show times and booking can be found on the website https://www.oldlaundrytheatre.co.uk/

The theatre and the attraction were developed by husband and wife team Roger Glossop and Charlotte Scott in 1992, with the backing of Britain’s most prolific living playwright, Sir Alan Ayckbourn. The building was, literally, the former Edwardian  laundry, where the hoteliers of Bowness had once sent their sheets for  washing.   Latterly the space had been used as a boat shed by Windermere  Lake Cruises and much work was needed.

Charlotte, who trained and worked as a stage manager and Roger, who is a set designer, conceived and built the award-winning attraction  themselves.  There was plenty of space left and they realised it could  lend itself to being used as a theatre.

It’s been a huge success, staging a wide range of shows for all tastes and all audiences, including one-night comedy and musical events, alongside world premieres of Ayckbourn’s plays.
