Macmillan coffee morning takes over lunch

When coffee and cake are too good just for mornings, let them take over lunchtime. That’s the idea at the Burn How Hotel in Bowness where the annual Macmillan coffee morning will be held from 12noon till 2pm on Friday September 29.

Cakes at the Macmillan event last year

People all over the UK host their own Coffee Morning and donations raised on the day are made to Macmillan. It is the charity’sbiggest fundraising event to support people living with cancer, and in 2022 they raised over £12 million and hope to top that this year.

At the Burn How, staff and friends will be busy baking cakes for the event which has become one of the charity highlights in Bowness, with tourists and local people all coming along. Said hotel proprietor Michael Robinson: “It’s the perfect chance to catch up over a cuppa and a slice of something delicious for a great cause.”

The perfect way to get together

The first Macmillan Coffee Morning happened way back in 1990. It was a  rather small affair with a simple idea: guests would gather over coffee  and donate the cost of their cuppa to Macmillan in the process. It was so effective, they did it again the next year – only this time  nationally. Since then, Coffee Morning has raised over £290 million for  Macmillan.
