Let’s get together and explore!

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and so we’ve gathered together some of the most romantic things to do in the Lake District to mark the occasion!

  • Hire a boat on the lake. There’s nothing quite like being on the open water, with the mountains surrounding you! You can take a trip on one of the boat cruises around Lake Windermere, or if you’re feeling more adventurous, hire your own boat down by the pier and explore the more hidden parts of the lake. You can book your boat trip here.

  • Visit the Wordsworth museum. It might not seem like an obvious choice, but as one of- if not the- key poets of the romantic period, Wordsworth has been inspiring budding romance for generations! Romanticism marked a shift away from the enlightenment period and moved to a focus on ways of looking at the world which recognized the importance of emotions and the imagination. He wrote about the depth of human emotions, the beauty of the natural world- in particular the Lake District and the importance of social justice and equality. You can find more about the Wordsworth museum here.

  • Go and see a waterfall. The Lake district is well known for our beautiful lakes and mountains but we also have some spectacular waterfalls in the local area. Nearby in Ambleside, we would recommend Stock Ghyll Force and if you’re up for more of a challenge, Stickle Ghyll in Great Langdale is an excellent walk. Alternatively, if you don’t want to do a walk but want to see a waterfall, Skelwith Force in Skelwith Bridge is a good option and you can go for a cake and coffee after at one of our favourite cafes Chesters by the River! You can find more information about Stock Ghyll Force here, Stickle Ghyll here and Skelwith Force here.

  • Go Stargazing. There’s nothing quite as romantic as gazing at the stars on a clear night. And just in time, Cumbria’s Dark Skies Festival is back! Keep your eyes peeled for the events which will be taking place over the next couple of weeks. You can find out more here.

  • And finally, to round up our list- have a weekend away in the Lakes! What better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than a last minute break with us to destress and get away to the natural beauty of the Lake District. You can book your stay here!
