When visiting the Lake District, one of the nicest things to do is to visit the many cafes in and around Bowness on Windermere and sample the many cakes on offer. We have listed below some of our favourite and you can enjoy them too.
1. Cafe No.4
Probably the standout independent café in town right now. Excellent ratings, known for quality coffee, brunch-style plates, and a smaller, more curated feel. Great if you care about coffee and food quality over touristy volume.

2. Mio mondo
A very popular all-rounder with a huge number of reviews. Reliable for breakfast, lunch, cakes, and casual coffee. Good if you want somewhere lively and central.
3. The Magic Roundabout
Large menu, open long hours, ideal for families or groups where everyone wants something different. More casual than boutique café vibes.
Best Tea Rooms / Afternoon Tea
4. Azalea Cafe Tea Room
A proper tea-room style choice in the centre of Bowness. Smaller and quieter than the busier cafés. Best if you want tea, cakes, and a relaxed sit-down break.
5. Blackwell – the Arts & Crafts house
A destination tea room inside one of the area’s most beautiful heritage houses just outside town. Excellent for combining culture + tea and cake. Worth the short drive or taxi.

6. Brysons Tea Room
Traditional tea room known for cream teas and baking. A classic Lake District option.
Best with a View / Lakeside Feel
7. The Bluebird Cafe on the Bay
Great if location matters most. Near the lakefront and ideal for coffee while watching the water and boats.
8. Windermere Jetty Museum Lakeshore Cafe
Lovely modern café setting by the water. Great choice if visiting the museum or wanting somewhere scenic and calmer than the centre.
