  • We love the Lake District and wanted a lovely hotel in which to celebrate our Ruby Wedding Anniversary. The Burn How was everything we hoped for. The hotel accommodation was so different with its garden chalet rooms. Extremely comfortable, and spotlessly clean, lovely and quiet with a balcony over looking the garden. It felt like you were staying in your own bungalow. Ideally situated only a few minutes walk from the hotel into town or to the lakeside. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the breakfasts were excellent. We will definitley be coming back the next time we visit the lakes, and we recommend the hotle to anyone wishing for a realxing break. Thanks Burn How for a memorable Ruby Anniversary.

  • The menbers of the reunion had an excellent weekend at the Burn How, nothing but praise from all corners. All staff provided a very high standard of service being efffective, efficient and most of all very friendly. Our choice for top team would be the chef and her team who provided a high standard of food, our outstanding staff member would be Dorothy who dealt with our every need

  • We had a 4 nights stay and were made very welcome by the staff. The room was top notch and the food was excellent. It is 3 minutes walk from the town centre and Lake Winderere-ideal. My only complaint was I had problems with the wi-fi

    Mike Axon  (September 2011)
  • Location superb. Excellent restaurant, food and comfortable lounge. Friendly staff, very helpful. Nice large room, comfortbale bed. One minor very minor complaint could have done with a little more storage space for hanging clothes as we were geared for an eight night stay

  • We have recently stayed with you in room 25, and just wish to tell you we had a very comfortable stay, the room was excellent. The staff were friendly and really helpful. We were on holidy with family whom were staying next door at the Burnside where they have gone for years. Because of this we were only able to dine with you on one night of our stay as we joined them for celebration meals. The meal we had was first class and we only wish we could have dined with you on the other evenings. Our breakfasts were very tasty and selection wonderful. We look forward to visiting you again and will be recommending you to our friends visiting the area.

The food is out of this world, this was our 2nd visit and we will return in the near future and will recommend to friends and family, once again thank you all again for a great time

  • It had been 13 years since we last visited the Burn How Hotel (having our lives brightened by a boxer dog called Georgie in the intervening years, sadly she has passed away) We stayed at the hotel on several occassions before and wondered if it would still have that wow factor we remembered, as you usually find that nothing is ever the same! To our amazement it was just as we had remembered, it was as if we were in a time warp, our stay was equally as enjoyable as it had been all those years ago, and the food was excellent. Hope to return again soon.

  • It's terrific. Good location. Nice staff. Comfortable bed. They provide choices for our breakfast, so nice. The spiders made me a bit nervous but I understand that's a part of the natural

  • Stayed at the Burn How 24 years ago with my parents and brother. I specifically chose the Burn How again fro my honeymoon. Enough said...) And my wife loves it!

  • We throughly enjoyed our stay at this hotle the welcome was very friendly and the room was very comfortable and quiet. The food was excellent and I have never stayed a t a hotel with such a large choice on the breakfast menu. The only problem was I never seemd to get a coffee top up when needed one felt a bit left out as my husband got a large pot of tea. It is only a short walk from the boats and the centre of Bowness but is very quiet and set away from all the activity

  • This hotel is simply amazing. Everything about it was perfect..... the location, the rooms, the food, the staff....etc. It is also ideal for a real break. I come from Eygpt and with all the turbulent events going on there,I was really able to unwind like I have never done before.

  • Just returned from 2 nights at the Burn How. Room was clean, comfortable and warm. Although we stayed in the house we also viewed the chalets which looked great too. We had been recommended the hotel and we weren't disappointed. The food was excellent and the house wine was extremely good. All the staff were friendly, efficient and couldn't do enough for us. I would recommend this hotel to my mum - and that means it really is fantastic.

  • If you have an overseas guest, this hotel is a fine example of the quintessential Lake District hotel. The room was spacious, well furnished and tasteful with a good sized modern bathroom (and small washing line - a must for walkers). In addition to tea and coffee making facilities, iron and wifi there was also a trouser press! After a long, wet day out walking the spacious and comfortable room was lovely to return to. There was also a lovely and inviting lounge area and bar which we gratefully collapsed in at night. Check out the toilet in this area. My Aussie mate loved it!.Surprisingly for a hotel the drinks were reasonably priced with a good choice of local beers. The restaurant and breakfast were also excellent. In all we couldn't fault this hotel. We liked it so much we stayed an extra night. We shall definitely be recommending it and will book it next time we're in the area

  • The Burn How Hotel is a perfect for a bit of peace and quiet but located 2 minutes away from everything Bowness has to offer. We stayed in a Garden chalet room which had bunk beds, a single bed and a double, great for a family of 4. Room was spacious and clean with a nice bathroom. You are able to park your car right next to the room which saves all the hassle of dragging bags around. We were going to eat in the restaurant after looking at the menus on their website however on arrival to book we were told that the a la carte menu wasn't available. This was a bit disappointing as we were definitely looking forward to trying the restaurant, however we were able to walk into Bowness and choose a place to eat without any problems. The hotel bar is reasonably priced and really comfortable. Breakfast was also very nice, the fresh fruit available and smoked salmon and scrambled eggs were lovely. Altogether this was a great stay in an ideal location, we hope to return again soon.

    A great find    (March 2011)
  • Have just returned from a two night stay at the Burn How and can say the experience was perfect from beginning to end. There were eight of us with two children and the Staff were brilliant both to the children and ourselves. Nothing was too much trouble. The breakfasts were excellant and we stayed in to dine on one occasion. The food was cooked to perfection. The drinks in the bar were quite reasonable and not over inflated like a lot of hotels. We will definitely return to this hotel on our next trip to the Lakes, thanks to Linda and the rest of the Staff.

  • My partner have just returned from the Lake District. We chose to stay at the Burn How Hotel through lastminute.com because of previous reviews and we can honestly say we had a wonderful time. The hotel was very clean, comfortable with an extremely friendly and welcoming service from all the staff. The breakfast menu was fantastic, you can chose to have breakfast in your room at no extra cost which we did on one of the days, the others we sampled some fine cooking. On two of our nights we chose to eat in the restaurant which consist of a 'light bites' menu and a main menu from which you can choose to have 2-3 courses at very good prices. The food was of 5* quality, the hotel has won consecutively year upon year the AA Rosette for Fine Food. The staff couldn't help more, they make you feel very welcome as soon as you check in and are on hand at all hours. The hotels location couldn't be better, you are 2 minutes literally from Lake Windermere and 5 minute walk from Bowness town which has a great variety of shops, amenities and restaurants/cafes. All in all, staying at the Burn How Hotel contributed greatly in completeing what my girlfriend and I think as a 5* quality relaxing long weekend break and we shall most definately be returning and recommending to friends.

  • We enjoyed the peaceful location, the staff were friendly and efficient, we found a little 'gem' in the beautiful Lake District.

Stephen Peters Romford, Essex    (August 2010)
  • The location to Bowness is superb in that it is close enough to walk into the centre yet far away enough to get complete peace and quiet. The layout of the rooms meant we had the privacy of private self catering with all the facilities of a top class hotel. All in all a very pleasant place to stay.

    David Woolstencroft Audenshaw, Manchester
  • Staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly, the hotel is conveniently situated close to Lake Windermere, breakfast and dinner were truly excellent. After many years of traveling around the world this hotel rates as one of our best hotel experiences. We were impressed by the restaurant table tea light holders, nice touch!!

    Barrie Glover Stourbridge   (May 2010)

  • Well located hotel - staff very friendly. Breakfast really good and good variety.

Janette Harris Alloway, Ayr    (May 2010)
  • The location was excellent, only a 5 minute walk to the lake or into town. The breakfasts were very good, both the choice and quality. We also liked the garden chalets with a balcony, nice to relax outside with a glass of wine.

    Desmond Wheeler York   (June 2010)
  • I stayed in one of the chalets as I could not manage the stairs in the Lodge. The lady who showed me where I would be staying was very helpful and she changed my accommodation with reception with no bother. I was very comfortable and clean. I could not have wished for a better week. Thank you very much.

  • The room was very large and comfortable for our family of four. The breakfast was excellent and the dining room was very really lovely. The hotel is in an excellent location adjacent to town and the lake. The staff at the Burn How Garden House Hotel was very friendly and warm.

Christine Silver Simi Valley, CA (US)   (August 2010)
  • We were delighted with our room and its general facilities, particularly the balcony and, of course, the four-poster bed. As for the hotel location it was ideal, close to the shops, restaurants, lake etc yet pleasantly quiet.

    Ian Bruce Glasgow   (May 2010)
  • The hotel is easy walking access to the town and the lake, we would stay again.

  • Thank you very much for making our stay at the Burn How so pleasant. From arrival to departure we could not fault the standard of service you and your staff provided. We are happy that we have discovered the hotel rather late in our lives, but we shall certainly return before long.

  • We stayed for 2 nights and were in the lodge. The lodge was a former victorian residence and suited us to a T. The room had all the period features, but had modern decor and bathroom. We looked at some of the other rooms and they appeared more traditional. We would stay again. The position was perfect and actually having a reserved parking space at a hotel in Bowness is a big plus.

  • A fantastic hotel in a fantastic location, made to feel very welcome when checking in a shown to our room which was everything you would require, cleanliness, peaceful, excellent food and friendly helpful staff when required, I would not think twice about returning again in the near future.
